Through Contact Impro, Tango and principles of Martial Arts into Dance Theatre 25th - 28th September 2008

We'll use Contact, Tango and basic principles of martial arts to create a rich variety of relations with our dance partner. A relation brings always the possibility of drama, or story telling and or poetry in a musical sense. Relations will be so the focus of structured improvisations or compositions to be created in a series of three monthly workshops. The solos, duos, trios or group pieces that will be created with the assistance direction of Javier Cura, will be shown as "works in progress" by the end of the 3 workshops. Even do, those participants not interested in the final performance can assist to one or both of the first two workshops. The third will be exclusively dedicated to those who are performing. The objective in the end is to reach to an improvised dance of great clarity of form and at the same time, free and instinctive in it's expression.
From tango we'll borrow:
- The clarity of axis and the use of spirals
- The interplay of balances and counter balances
- Rhythm and melody
From Contact improvisation and mainly TaiChi and Aikido we'll borrow:
- Falls, levas, grounding, lifts
- The conscious use of centripetal and centrifugal forces
- The free body relation to the earth.
Each workshop has the duration of four days starting on the 25th of September, finishing by the end of November.
No previous experience in either of these dance forms is necessary for participation in the workshops. Seminars are open to everyone who feels movement is a source of creativity. Location: mirror salon DAMU Time: 10 - 14:00 Price: 2300,- Price for DAMU students: 2000,-
